Day 25, Matthew 6
As we continue in the sermon on the mount, Jesus offers us choices that have eternal and temporal significance.
Sometimes choosing God’s way does not change our circumstances in the moment, but we will see the fruit in the future. Sometimes the accumulation of our choices has eternal consequences. Many of these choices are counter-intuitive for selfish humans. That’s because we are not designed to be selfish!
So what am I gathering by my choices? Is my life accumulating kingdom fruit or worldly perishables? The key to these choices is to live in daily community with our Father as described in the prayer Jesus teaches. Putting God first makes everything else fall into its rightful place.
More wisdom in our next reading. As you pause to reflect, see which of Jesus’ instructions brings most joy to you. Likely this is a principle you have learned and are applying. Conversely, which challenge seems hardest today? That is where Holy Spirit is at work, making you more like Jesus.
Have a great day!
