Day 128, 1 Thessalonians 3

1 Thessalonians 3

Yesterday Paul wrote of his deep longing to be reunited with the Thessalonians, from who he had been suddenly torn by the actions of the jealous Jewish rabble. But he is now in Athens and seeing great progress for the kingdom message. So he sent Timothy, his spiritual son (Acts 16:1-5), who has now returned with the news that the ekklesia in Thessalonica is doing well.

What a joy to Paul to hear that these spiritual children are flourishing. It shows the vitality of teamwork in the gospel, and the potential of encouragement to strengthen and embolden those who are laboring to advance the Kingdom.

Paul responds with joyful thanksgiving to God and consistent intercession for them all. He prays that he can be reunited with them, but more importantly that their love will increase and overflow. That overflow is in two directions: to one another and to those who have not yet received it.

How’s your overflowing today? (We’ve asked that a great deal, and will continue to do so).

Are you overflowing among your brothers and sisters in the ekklesia (the congregation God has placed you into)? And are you all overflowing to those around who are desperately thirsty for love?

Have a great day!

Mark.
