Day 35, Mark 4
By way of respite on our fifth reading this week, Mark gives us the parables again, along with the calming of the storm. We will revisit the demoniac one more time next week.
For today, let’s allow the seeds of the parables to grow in our hearts.
The primary way to embrace a parable (which is meant to teach through contrasts) is to identify the obvious, main teaching point and accept it. Then the Holy Spirit waters that seed and causes it to grow. After some time it will bear fruit.
Don’t despise tiny seeds of revelation: they can become mighty trees.
In the same way, a lamp is most valuable when the surroundings are dark. If you are surrounded by darkness, your light will shine brightly.
God’s truth is a shining light within us that we do well not to hide, and it is a powerful seed that will grow to magnificent impact if we refuse to rush it.
Have a great day!
Mark.
