Day 154, 2 Corinthians 6

2 Corinthians 6

With the Corinthian focus on position and outward measures of spirituality, there was a consequent drift toward compromise with society and alliances with ungodly influences for the sake of power. The same is true for much of the Church in the first world today, especially in America. Similar traits can also be found in developing nations if they have a longer history of missionary influence from American and European worldviews.

Paul rightly diagnoses the cause of such compromise: it is taking the Lord’s grace in vain. And in an effort to persuade his spiritual children to turn away from such a sin, Paul writes in the most revealing emotional terms.

Imagine your spiritual father writing these words to you. How would you respond? Paul’s urging is to open your heart to spiritual fathers, step away from unholy reliance on human power to achieve spiritual results, and enter into a deeper revelation of God as our loving Father. It is time for compromise to yield to full-hearted passion for God.

Have a great day!

Mark.
