Day 150, 2 Corinthians 2

2 Corinthians 2

Paul continues his stress on the reason for his writing, rather than visiting. The circumstances of his missionary labors prevented him going to them in person to address the issues of sin that had been reported, but the letter he sent brought repentance and now Paul is urging them to show love to the restored sinner.

There is a little-appreciated principle here: sometimes leadership requires us to do hard things, and challenge accepted norms with godly truth. We cannot allow the fear of man to cause us to deviate from God’s purpose.

Those truly called by God will always release the fragrance of grace, even in firm correction, and thus God is honored. In contrast, it is those who water down the truth for the sake of not offending fellow-believers who are in the wrong.

This is not justification for strident condemnation of unbelievers who sin, but it is a godly example of fearless leadership when God’s children slip into error.

Have a great day!

Mark.
